I don't have school on Wednesdays. Guess where I am. At school. My Radio II group just had its first out-of-class meeting. On one hand, I'm glad it finally happened. On the other, I'm a big, whiny baby who slept very little and had to pester people to take me here. The one guy was 30 minutes late. After he arrived, we talked for only 15 minutes. Oh well, Dorothea is picking me up at 12:30, and we're having lunch. That should cheer me.

I have had the song "Dead Wrestlers" in my head, since I woke up.

For some reason, I'm fascinated that these iMacs have optical mice. Someday, I, too, shall have an optical mouse, but probably not an iMac.

My hamster is rolling around in a ball, and my dog is afraid. It's cute.

Supposedly, the FedEx people tried to bring stuff here, while I was at school, and they had to take it back with them, because no one was around to sign for it. Gar, that was my computer stuff. I guess it doesn't matter, since I just ordered a different processor, and I need to go with Craig sometime to get a videocard.

I was going to say, "carousel music is underrated and so am I," but then I wondered if I am underrated. Or overrated. Then I realized that I don't think I'm rated at all. Which reminds me of what I was thinking about just an hour ago, which is that I can think of at least five or so people I sort of know from online, whom I wish I knew better. I stand by my statement about carousel music, however.

What's with me?

My film book is an arm's length away, and I just don't feel like reading it. I'm terribly uninterested in whether films portray reality or why they cannot portray reality or all that film theory craziness. That kind of thing isn't something I have an easy time understanding for whatever reason. I guess that's a better thing to say than "I'm stupid, because I have trouble with film theory."

Really, what the hell am I talking about?

So I did end up buying three tickets at a total of about $59 each. That's comparably a lot of money, I guess. Most of the shows cost no more than $40, but these were $48.50 or something like that, not to mention Ticketmster's horrible fees. I'm not entirely sure who's going with me. I think originally I was planning on bringing Nathan (who's interested but rather unfamiliar with the KITH) and my Uncle John (who was the one who got me interested in the show in the first place and saw two shows of the last tour with me). However, they're both turned off by the price, and my uncle hates driving to that theatre, because he hates city driving, and he hates driving underneath train tracks, and he hates trying to find a different way through the city at night. I know they'll go with me, if no one else will, but I should probably ask around, in the meantime. Alyssa saw two NYC shows with me last time, so maybe she'll want to go to this? Bah, I dunno, the deal is that if I'm selling you my tickets, then you must provide a way for me to get to the theatre. Some crappy deal, no? {g}

Unless there's an Atlantic City show, I don't foresee myself going to any other shows in this tour. Stupid money.

What's up with me...
—I'm a huge idiot, and I lost the bracelet my mom gave me last week. I don't know if I lost it at school or at home, yesterday. I didn't even notice til 2am. It wasn't expensive, but still.
—Today, Craig and I went to Best Buy to get me a sound card, then we ate at IHOP. After that, we ordered almost everything I'll need for my new computer. Yay!
—I've always hated yogurt. The other day, I got a little yogurt for my hamster, and I tried some first, so now I'm actually craving it. I had some strawberry-banana yesterday, and some peach today. I might have another cup later. I don't get it.
—I think the people in my radio group are actually starting to talk to me about the project. At least, I hope they are.
—I had a test in TV I on Monday and a psychology test on Tuesday. I think I did all right.
—I need to write a paper for my Special Topics: Theory and Research class about this German movie we saw, called Lessons of Darkness (or Lektionen in Finsternis). I need to rent it, so I can watch again and pay more attention, but no one seems to have it. I doubt I'll be lucky enough to catch it on cable like I did with Badlands. The film consists of footage of Kuwait and it's burning oil fields from 1992. What's neat about it is that there's narration and it's presented in a way that makes it look like it's on another planet.
—Last night, as I was waiting to get picked up (because my psychology test was done and there was no lecture), I was sitting in the little lounge area of the music (and law) building reading my Lemony Snicket book. Someone went into the little recital auditorium and started practicing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and it made me feel like I need to start practicing the piano (and accordion) again. Not that I was ever good enough to play anything remotely as cool as the Moonlight Sonata, but I'd like to eventually be.
—And for some reason, I was really hesitant about sitting on the couch in the lounge. It just seemed yucky or something, like it was a "herpes couch" or something.

So tonight, Nathan and I went with Suzanne and her boyfriend to the pet store where they work, and I got a hamster. ^_^ She's a pretty litle black bear hamster. I still haven't named her. Suggest a name. {g} I prefer people names, but I'm open to suggestions. I was going to name it Elephant after the hamster on Little Bill, but I think that'd be cuter for a boy hamster. Right now, she's playing on her wheel. She's pretty nice. She doesn't jump out of my hands, but she likes to run up my arm. {g} Oh, and tonight, she sat in my hand and ate a Froot Loop. Out of all my mice (three), rats (two), and hamsters (one), it was rare for them to take food from me if they did at all, and none of them would ever eat, while I was holding them. I should take a picture of her. :)

Suzanne couldn't get me a discount on the hamster, but she did end up saving me some money on the cage, food, and chew sticks. Yay!

Tonight, Craig came over to have a look-see at my hamster and to plan what to buy for the computer he's going to build for me.

What Pattern Are You?

posted by Beth at 3:54:00 PM

Oh man, so I went to the pet store tonight, and I saw some really cute black bear hamsters. I tried to find a decent picture of them, but I couldn't. The pet store also had free baby hamsters. They were giving them away, because they had no room for them, and they probably expect people to buy all the accessories at the store. I'm seriously considering getting a hamster, so now I'm trying to decide whether I want a baby hamster that's free or a really awesome-looking black bear hamster that's $13 (I had never seen a more expensive hamster).

I'd also need to buy a cage. I used to keep my rodent pets in aquariums, but they're harder to clean out than a cage. The pet store had some decent ones, but I don't know about shelling out another $30 for one.

Feh. So I have yet to hear from the two other people in my Radio group. Class meets Tuesday, and last week, I gave them my email address; I didn't take theirs, because I told them to just email me. What pisses me off is this—these groups were assigned, and one of the two guys in my group had been sitting next to me throughout the whole class. So ten minutes before class ends, he (the professor) tells us to meet with our group. The third guy walks over to the guy near me and they talk for a few seconds. Then they both get up and leave. :P Rather than turning to me and saying "when can you meet and how can we reach you?" they go into the hallway. I had to go after them to give them my number and email address. Did they not care or what? This is starting out badly. My nerves are going to be on edge either until they email me or until class meets on Tuesday and I can ask why the hell they didn't email me. At least there's nothing to hand in for class this week. {sigh}

So remember how I needed to rent Badlands, so I could work on that paper? Altogether, I tried three video stores and none of them had it. As I got off the phone with the third store, I found out the movie had come on TV 25 minutes prior and would be on again in another two and a half hours. This is why digital cable is a necessity! I taped the movie and watched it at about 5am or so. Now my paper is done, but it's really short. I don't think that should matter, though.

I really need to catch up on my reading for TV I. We were supposed to have a book, but the school bookstore made a mistake, so now all of our readings come from a website. I thought that'd be a real blessing, since it's free and I have so much trouble tearing myself away from the computer, in order to pick up my schoolbooks, but this way is actually worse. Instead of just taking a look at what I have to read, as I talk to people and do whatever the hell it is I waste so many hours a day on online, I totally ignore it. And it's not worth printing out, since we're supposed to take these little quiz things afterward. Why do I have trouble focusing my attention? It isn't even hard to read, so I have no excuse.

My uncle just asked me if I knew the name of LBJ's beagle. I hate hate hate crossword puzzles. For whatever reason, I am supersucky at word puzzles. I prefer my puzzles to have pictures or patterns. I wonder what that says about me. But I would rather hit myself on the head with a hammer, than complete a crossword puzzle. Your fondness for them amazes my pants off. {g}

Grr. Hollywood Video didn't have Badlands. I guess I'll have to take my business to the Blockbuster, who probably also won't have it.

So two nights ago, I came home from school at like 9:30 and started to eat my dinner. I was flipping channels, and saw that Patch Adams was on ABC. Now, I had never seen it before, and I knew all too well that it was crap. I watched maybe 40 minutes of it (counting commercials), and I daresay it was one of the most ridiculous movies ever! Have you seen it? I mean really. So if you were a little kid with cancer and you were stuck in bed and in great pain, then this big guy comes in and puts an enema ball on his nose and bedpans on his feet and proceeds to speak in funny voices and fall down a lot, would you laugh and jump around or would you start screaming for help? Seriously. {g} Oh, and if you were dying of a painful disease, would it ease your dying soul to have Robin Williams sing that "blue skies smilin' at me" song (would you ask him to sing it?), as your family waited outside the room? What did amuse me, however, was that Philip Seymour Hoffman was in it. I remember him best as the nurse from Magnolia. In this, he was a med student who hated Patch because of how unprofessional he was. But you know what? Maybe he was just jealous of him! I actually don't know for sure, because I changed the channel after a dying old lady was sharing her lifelong fantasy of being in a swimming pool filled with noodles. Oh, what a nice movie that has taught us that laughter is the best medicine after all. Oh, what a load.

And I'm already sorry I used the word "enema" on here, as it's going to get me some really freaky search referrals. {g}

Things about school today:

1. In my Radio II class, I found out that, about two weeks after I finished my internship at WPHT, they dumped Dr. Laura's show. I find that delightful. {g} I only wish it had happened, while I was still there. I asked my professor about it, and he said she was getting really bad ratings. I thought she was doing well, too. Oh no. :}
2. Our big project for that class is a documentary. He chose the topic, so it's about party drugs and stuff. It's divided into five sections, and today, we were brainstorming possible titles. Part 2 is on roofies, and someone said we should call it "the roofies on fire." So wrong. {g} My group is working on the nearly 30 minute segment about Ecstasy. If you or anyone you know does or has used ecstasy and would like to do an interview, then maybe you should email me. They can be anonymous, over the phone, whatever. Seriously, we're supposed to have some interviews in this thing. {g}
3. My psychology teacher was selling Girl Scout Cookies for her daughter. She said we'd get extra credit, if we bought a box. I happened to buy a box, because I haven't had 'em in ages. I got peanut butter sandwiches. They are so freaking good. I hope she can hook me up with some thin mints next week. {g}

So that link from Tara... I finally looked at that. I don't believe in ghosts (although I love to let myself get scared by the idea), so I am embarrassed to say that I gasped really loudly and flew back into my chair. {g} I know it isn't real or anything. But when someone says they're going to show you a scary picture, it's usually just some mist in front of a staircase or some crap. {g}

Then again, there's also the ultra-famous TMBG ghost picture that has been studied by experts for quite some time now. {g}

Which British Band Are You?

Woo hoo! Ha ha! You get it? Because they say "woo hoo" in that Song 2, which is by Blur, who is the band that I am. Get it? Ha hoo.

posted by Beth at 2:36:00 AM

Enh. I feel like listing crap.

1. I am really behind on my psychology readings. I should be on that right now, but instead
2. I'm sitting here listening to Reba McEntire. Last Saturday, I heard her remake of "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" and "Fancy," and for whatever reason, they really interested me, so I downloaded them. I also have Vicky Lawrence's "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" on my playlist, now, too. My cousin Marji is really into Reba, and I'm starting to see why.
3. I meant to say a whole week ago... in my first theory and research class, we watched The Iron Giant and had to write a popular review of it. I had wanted to see it, so I was really excited, when it started. Of course, I had been terrified that we were going to watch Shrek instead. My professor said we'd be watching a movie aimed at children that adults really enjoyed, too, and I feared the worst. As I was leaving class, I heard at least two other people say, "I thought we were going to watch Shrek!" Gross. :p The Iron Giant really kicked my ass, though. I'd like to eventually buy it. We watched Badlands today. I need to rent and write about it.
4. Tonight, in my TV appreciation class, we watched a couple episodes of the Jack Benny Show. I have to say, it was genuinely funny. Mel Blanc was a regular on the show, and he was really recognizable. I'm sure there was a time, when I'd've thought that was cool, but tonight, I couldn't help but think that he was the only thing wrong with the show.
5. Yes indeed. My stupid quiz is still up. You should take it. I took your crummy quiz. {g} And who is bj?
6. Don't trust your soul to no backwoods southern lawyer, 'cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands.
